Injuries Plague Native Players
Nov 16, 2006

The injury bug has hit our Native NHLers early this season, with some of the top names in the league going down.  Wade Redden was the first to hit the injury report with a strained groin.  He is listed as being out indefinitely, which doesn’t bode well for the All-Star defenceman.

Rene Bourque had a scary incident on November 12th which landed him in the emergency room after being cut in neck with a skate in a pileup vs. Columbus.  After surgery, Rene spent the night in the hospital and was released the following day, but will be out 4-6 weeks while he recovers.

Jon Cheechoo

During the Sharks vs. Avalanche on November 15, Jon Cheechoo ended up on the bottom of a pileup in front of the opposing net.  It took him several minutes to get up, and he needed full assistance getting off the ice with what has been termed a “leg injury.”  An ETA has not been given, but the Sharks have stated that the injury is “not serious."s.”

Let’s wish our Natives a speedy recovery and return to action soon!

On a final note, Cody McCormick returned to action in fine form last week after sitting out the entire regular season with a bruised sternum.  Unfortunately, he has been a healthy scratch and has had to sit and watch while his team struggles through a 4 game losing streak.  Hopefully the Avs will decide a bit of physical presence is what they need to get things going and give him another chance.
