Sheldon Souray an All-Star
January 11, 2007

by A J Bellegarde, Nativehockey.com Correspondant

Defensemen Sheldon Souray, from Fishing Lake Metis Settlement in Alberta, has earned a starting role on the Eastern Conference All Star Team that will take on the Western Conference All Stars in Dallas on January 24th as part of the All Star Week.

The last NHL All Star game was played in 2004.  With the NHL lockout in full effect, there was no game to be played in 2005, and the 2006 edition of the all star game was cancelled to allow NHLers to play overseas at the Olympics in Turino, Italy.

Souray played in the 2004 All Star Game in Minnesota, and will represent his Montreal Canadians for the second straight season.  In the Skills Competition, held the night before the All Star Game in 2004, Souray tied for the hardest shot (with Adrien Aucoin) with a 102.2 mph blast.

And though Souray is happy about his selection, and chance to rate his slap shot against other NHLer, he says, “It’s really a team award.  When gets get individual things, it’s because the team is going good.  So, I’m going there to represent the Canadiens, which is a huge honour for me.
