Wade Redden is common name to many hockey fans, as he was the second overall draft pick in the 1995 NHL entry draft. Drafted by the Islanders, Redden was traded to Ottawa in June of 1996 and immediately signed a 3 year contract with the team. Both team management and Senator fans are exited about what he has brought to Ottawa's blue line. Redden marks a new wave of Native players that seem to be making the NHL. While the majority of current Natives have been tough, enforcing-type wingers and power forwards, Wade, among others, are proving that there are defensively skilled out there as well.
